Any one know what the life span is on a shutter on a mk 2? If you got a warranty would it be covered for 6 months?

Shutter life I think is 150K

You would only get a warranty if it was a Canon refurb, or the shop offered one of their own.

Canons is 6 months, a shop might give you some or none.

200,000 is the widely reported figure. Any warranty depends on the policy of the store that you are purchasing it from used, although it was released nearly 7 years ago now...

The shutter life remains the same, if it's the origional 150K, replaced another 150k

Truth is it could fail at 10k or go on to 300k, it's just a matter of luck.

Remeber too that the mirror box might go, you may get an electronics fault. Blah blah blah....

Exactly this, a mirror box failure is very expensive to replace as I discovered. On my old 1D MkI it the mirror box failed at about 25k actuations. I wouldn't worry too much about actuations, I don't now.

Have seen one for £400 - but 149,000 actuations so a bit of a risk - but comes with a 6 month guarantee - or a couple in the Canon sale section £435ish - shutter replaced - decisions..decisions...

If it comes with a 6 month warranty then buy it.

If theres one for fractionaly more with a new shutter then it's spin the bottle time.

I got an overpriced 1D3 at focus, absolutely minty Canon refurb. It's with Canon at the moment due to having 141 hot pixels. You pays your money and takes a chance. Hopefully when it's back I can get some racing shots under my belt, and maybe a trip to the Mach loop.

Is the £435 one not covered by any warranty/guarantee at all?

I think at 150k actuations you are already being a bit risky, an extra £35 for a bit of peace and mind might not be such a bad idea (and if it dies during something important, or you need to send it off for repair at a time when you badly need a camera, you'll regret it methinks!).
