Has anyone ever tried this?

Taking a shot at 10mm on a Canon 1DIII with a Canon 10-22mm lens?

I've watched a vid somewhere (can't remember now) youtube maybe, where a 10-22 was altered to fit ef mount and it's possible, and 12mm on a 1Ds111. I'll have adig.

Yes, it won't work. The mirror hits the rear element of the lens. The widest you can use it is at just under 12mm (actually the 1 of the 12 on the zoom ring) This gives an approx AOV similar to a 15mm lens on FF with no vignetting.

This was taken on the 10-22 EFs on my 1DMk3 at 13mm as I was matching the view offered by my 24L TSE shifted and stitched. (exif intact)

Thanks guys and I'm aware of all this but that is not answering my question.

Canon 10 22 is an EF-S lens; the 1DIII has an EF mount only - no EF-S.

You will only be able to do this if you physically alter the 10 22 to fit an EF mount. This may then result in the camera mirror hitting the rear element of the lens.

In conclusion I wouldn't recommend this. If you do want to try a wide crop lens on a 1DIII have a look at the third party alternatives, which are EF mounts, not EF-S. E.g. I'm pretty sure you will be able to mount the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM on a 1DIII, but you will get black corners at the widest focal lengths.

I did answer it, I said it won't work.

IT WON'T WORK THE MIRROR HITS THE REAR ELEMENT Been there, tried it!

Which takes less than 10 minutes and is completely reversible (as I have done it) and the mirror only hits the rear element at 10mm, there is a little bit of vignetting at 11mm and by 12mm the vignetting has gone. As the 1D series are actually a 1.25x crop this gives an approx FF AOV of 15mm equiv.

And I can't find the vid...bloody youtube :bang:

Edbray you're :bonk:ers :D
