Canon 1DIII v 1DIV comparison

Excellent read thanks Tobers.. thats exactly the sort of thing I want to read.. not how iso works shooting a plant pot in a front room... real usage and next to a mkIII

I wasnt wavering but if a little voice was about to speak.. you shut it up... why oh why cant i get my hands on one.. money sat here waiting.. just need a shop thats selling them for <4k as they list.. just no stock :(

These guys seem to think they will have stock Friday:

ah right, sorry to hear it mate. I am a terribly impatient person so when it comes to kit I have to have it like yesterday, even when I dont really need it right away (hope to god my missus doesnt read this!).

I bet you have been on the phone to them almost daily then! Fingers crossed some stock will land shortly!!

oh right I see.

Have you spoke to Canon rep Frankie Jim to see if he knows when the stock will land?
That way you can wait outside the store and make sure you get one! haha

I was like a very fidgety impatient person waiting for stock to come available. I decided to go down the big main dealer route reckoning that they'd get most stock. I also decided to pay up front on order as they would then give me priority when stock arrived.

At the end of the day though, it's just a camera and I was in a favourable financial position.

However, there is a certain "I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW" factor in all new camera gear, so much so that I'll drive hundreds of miles to pick up rather than wait for next day deliver. Strange bunch aren't we?

Firmware v1.0.6 is available. I'm installing it now. I'll report back after this weekend's sports sessions.

Interesting link you found there Nick.

I think the main thing which comes across there is that for indoor sports either camera is capable of decent shots ISO6400 - which they seem to suggest is what you need for such things.

I noted one comment on that page though about how the MkIV needs to be tested on a bright sunny day before a final judgement on MkIII problems put to bed can be made.

I'm still of the opinion that APS-H represents the best format for what we do (look at the 300mm vs the 400mm here - the 400 apart from expensive is too bloody heavy) and that ultimately if the gremlins can be proven to be gone, the MkIV is the ultimate action camera to date. But its that doubt that has crept in that stopped me buying a MkIII and I am sure will plague many yet to come. That killer shot that would have been an epic front page thats slightly OOF... was it me or was it the camera dicking me around?

Only time will tell!
