Canon 1Ds mk2 power problem

Hi all,

Just thought I'd see if any one has come across this problem & know a way to fix it before I send it off to Canon for repair.

When the camera is turned off & back on again, all that hapens is the battery empty symbol flashes and the camera won't turn on. If you then remove & reinsert the battery the camera turns on fine & works perfectly normally. The same happens if it goes to sleep - it won't turn on unless the battery is removed.

I've also tried removing/replacing the backup battery but the same happens.

Thanks.

It might be worth trying a firmware update??

I don't know if you can make the camera replace it if it's already running the last version but it would only take a moment to try it.

Thanks for the suggestion - the only difference it made is the battery symbol no longer flashes! But the camera still works after the battery is reinserted so pretty much as before.

Am I right that there is just one body and one battery here?

Would be good to know what happens if you try a different battery, or that battery in a different body.

No, I've tried 3 different batteries & the ac adapter - same result. The batteries are fine in another 1Ds.

I've posted it off to Canon. Talking to the technician there he seemed to think it was a dc-dc board fault & probably looking at a replacement.
