Yes
I'm trying to get my head around these two recently-announced lenses, and decide whether they're things I need to be buying.

Trouble is, I can't for the life of me work out what they're supposed to be used for. Any suggestions, anyone?

Probably a 24-70, i would guess that the primes are better for video due to the IS

So what gap are they plugging? If somebody is likely to want to use these lenses, what equipment would they be using now?

5D2/3- not much to cover it with IS. Could use the 24-105 but it doesn't have f2.8 and the IQ should be better from these primes.

I asked myself the same question when they were announced and I still can't see a sensible reason for them...

I'm still waiting for them to release a 16-200mm F2.8 L IS USM! :D

Video. IS and USM will make them suitable I would imagine.

Yep, think these are aimed more at video users. Also think I read somewhere when the 5D MKIII was about to be released that these lens are of a higher grade optically than the old 24mm and 28mm - I could be wrong on that though, haven't seen any comparisons either
