Looking at the Canon 2.8, non IS, 2nd hand.

I use a 550D and like primes. Currently use a 50mm 1.8

Would the 28mm be a better prime lens? I just returned from Italy and hardly used the 50mm at 1.8

Would it be a better lens?

I've always thought that non macro primes of f2.8 or slower are pretty pointless as there'll probably be a more flexible f2.8 zoom that'll do the job unless there's some other advantage in favour of the prime such as the prime being very compact, very very good or very cheap.

Personally I'd go for a 28mm f1.8 or rather the Sigma 30mm f1.4. I used one on my Canon APS-C DSLR and although some report inconsistent focus and reviews state that it suffers from field curvature mine never let me down focus wise and I never ever thought that field curvature was a real world issue.
