Canon 30d better than GX10?

Currently using a Samsung GX10 as i did have a Canon 30d but couldnt get a sharp pic out of it (was using a non is lens and couldnt afford a better lens)

My mate is saying a 30d (8mp) with a canon 18-200 IS lens would give much better pics than a Samsung GX10 woth a tamron 18-200 lens

Is he talking crap?
 
Put 50mm f/1.4 on each and then compare the cameras. Consumer lenses are only meant to be shelved and better ones bought to generate 2x more revenue. Shooting technique and processing are also very important.

Indeed, now I can't remember names but they're are photo journalists in war zones for example, who take amazing pictures with compact cameras worth nothing in todays market.

How you use it makes a stonking difference.

Yep. Knowing camera / lens limits is important and then you can work round it. Good lighting makes the difference. Poorly lit photos even from the sharpest lenses are useless.
 
Yes he is. Even though I use Canon gear there's nothing magical about it. And if you're comparing a Canon and a Samsung both with 18-200 lenses on... you'd be pretty pushed to reliably see any difference.
