Has anyone had a chance to try one of these out yet? how does it perform?

I quite like the idea of a tiny lens on my 35mm film body to keep it more subtle and compact. Plus, I think the 40mm focal length is a little better than the 50 for me.
 
I got one soon after it was released and have to say it's one of my favourite lenses.
 
I got one a few weeks ago, primarily for the wife to use on her new 650D, but it works really well on both my 60D and 5D3. Really good lens and great for video on the 650D. I'd get the wife the 18-135 STM, but I couldn't use it with my 5D3 and I prefer to get EF mount lenses we can both use.

Image quality and build quality seems great for the price! i think it'll be perfect as a walk about lens on my film SLR - i think i might have to make a purchase :D
 
I bought one a few weeks ago.. Tested it in the studio over the 24-70 and looks good in the results!!

The only issue now is that my daughter has nabbed it and its welded to her 600D...
 
Just bought one to replace my 50 1.8 as that was always a bit too long so fits the bill perfectly as weighs the same while being built better and while nice to have 1.8 I pretty much only shoot outside in daylight so not exactly needed! ALso a bit of a bargain at DigitalRev.

All those whining about the DSLR being too big and heavy to carry around need to try one of these lenses on something like an 1100D as it only weighs around 600 grams all in, is pretty small yet still gives very nice IQ along with DSLR functionality, viewfinder, performance (speed and battery life) etc, etc,.
 
Apparently there is a firmware update due out sometime in August to rectify a phenomenon with the AF and any pressure that's applied

That's still a big porker next to some CSC+lens though and that's without thinking about the other CSC advantages :D

I knew you would pick up on that, and at risk of us getting into another CSC is better/worse than DSLR it is not really much different in weight than a CSC model that has a viewfinder is it?

Anyway, you won't convince me, I like the way a DSLR handles and performs and to have one that weighs in at 600 grams is perfect for my needs.

other CSC advantages indeed :)
