afiak it doesnt have a pc sync socket, but you could get an adaptor which fits into the hotshoe.
However i'm not sure why you would want off camera flash for sports, as its not like you have time to get the light on the correct side of the players.

Which metz do you have? be advised some models have a VERY high triger voltage, if you get a hot shoe adaptor make sure it's one designed to protect your camera against high voltages, or you could end up frying your camera. Wayne

well i got it from college for the the weekend so i wont be buying anything for it , its a 45cl-4 can i still use it if i get someone else to flash it ? you know like a standalone ? can i trigger it with my pop up flash ?

I'd also check the trigger voltage before you use it. Some Metz flashguns have a quite high voltage which can damage digital circuits.

i thought that would only matter if i could sync it to my camera which has came to my attention i can't , do these metz flash guns also you to trigger them with the pop up flash from the camera ?

ok i dont have that haha . is there anyway i can use the two together this weekend without having to buy any adaper or anything like that ? so that they are synced to gether?

I think the CL45 is ok, but check to be on the safe side, certainly some of the older 45's have a trigger voltage around 200v, enough to get a decent shock off the hot shoe when the cameras connected to the pc socket (on the camera) and I speak from experience!!! LOL. Thats more than enough to "kill" a moden digital camera I would think. Wayne

Now Im getting worried, I have just bought a Mecablitz 58 AF-1 C for my EOS 400D. Anything I should be worried about?

well the hotshoe works (if the voltage is safe) but really it depends on what sport for rugby nothing will help for something smaller and indoor a single hotshoe flash might help.

Whats your plan?

No I'm pretty sure the AF ones are designed for digital, it's the older models made for the film cameras you have to watch (or any really cheap one) You also have to watch for some studio flashes, again the older ones gave out a fair bit of power. Wayne

Thanks, I was panicking there. :)

I was wondering if anyone was able to shed a bit more light on the compatibility of Metz hand flashes with the Canon 450d?

My own camera is a 450d but I use a Metz 45 CL-4 with a Nikon D90 at work which works fine but have been told by a Jessops technician that its not advisable to this Metz flash with DSLR's.

Dont want to risk blowing my wee camera to pieces but if it works with Nikon should it be fine with my Canon?

Confused. Please help.
