Canon 450d to Nikon D7000

If I sell my 450d, 50mm f1.4, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC and 430 EX 2 flash on eBay, I recon I could get around £750. Panamoz do the Nikon D7000 for £590, the 35mm f1.8 for £150 and the SB-700 flash for £218. Total = £958 - 5% for paying by bank transfer + say £30 for p&p = £940 . So i'd need to find around £200 give or take a few quid (including eBay/Paypal fees)


I'd be hoping for improved AF speed and accuracy and better low-light ability. Should I go for it or not?

I haven't been here long enough to use the classified section. Ebay/Paypal is a bit of a rip-off but you get top prices and an almost guaranteed sale.

The obvious upgrade would be the Canon 60d but in all the reviews i've seen, the Nikon D7000 seems better (apart from video recording)
 
I'd say you'll end up spending quite a lot more if you move to Nikon

The 35mm is a great lens but I couldn't imagine only having one lens for very long

I'd think selling the 450D adding some money and getting a 60D would be cheaper in the long run
 
I love the 35mm, love it to bits, both the feel the IQ the size the whole lot is perfect. But and that is a fairly important but it is not very flexible so instead of the flashgn I might try and get a second hand Tamron 17-50 and save up for the flash later. In any case 2.8 + the high ISO performance of the D7K should give you plenty of room to shoot without a flash.

Unless of course you use your flash a lot creatively (which I am not cause I can't cause I am useless that way).
 
I can couch for the 60D! It's a beautiful camera lol - plus if you stick with canon all your current lenses are still useable!

I think you should give me your 1d mk3. Just wish I had a bit more money to play with...

Not a bad idea.
 
Had a quick play with a Nikon D7000 yesterday. I lightly pressed the shutter button to focus and took a shot by mistake, talk about hair trigger! It also struggled to focus with the kit lens. Think I may save up and get a Canon 7d instead.
 
I've had both the 60d and 7d, to my eyes the iq was slightly better on the 60d even though they're the same sensor
I'd only bother with a 7d if your shooting fast sports or birds and need the extra fps
plus the 7d is quite heavy

In that case, I think I may sell my lenses and get a Canon 17-55mm f2.8 for now. Going to disneyland Paris in the new year so want some top-notch glass.

Or the improved autofocus - which IMO is more of a reason to get the 7D than FPS

Although I don't shoot sports, I do have a four year old son that moves quite quickly and as a result, is difficult to photograph.

I think I may go for the Canon 17-55 first and then save up for the 7d.
 
You will notice a difference with the 17-55mm too. The extra light hitting the AF sensors will improve performance no end, and the AF speed on that lens is pretty good too.
