I can't believe this thread wasn't even started yet! :bonk:

I've had mine for just just over 10 months now and I'm really REALLY pleased with it. Admittedly yeah, it's got flaws, but I feel as if it only has flaws compared to newer kit at the same level. It is a 50D in a smaller, cheaper package but the image quality for the price is insane!

I'm just as annoyed about the video mode too, but I've found my work arounds just fine ;)

I've got mine on a battery grip from Phottix too, if you haven't got one. Get one and thank me later. Not even £35 in some places. I'll never go back to being without one.

Recommended glass and accessories anyone?
 
I've got a grip from Opteka, exactly the same as the genuine Canon one.

Lens-wise: 10-22, 24-70 and 100-400 with an occasional go on the nifty fifty.
Accessories: the usual cable release, spirit level etc, Kata bag, Polariod screw-in filters from Amazon, Kood square formats and the B&W 10 stopper.

Great camera but it's soon to be demoted to a backup when the 1DX comes out.

Anyone use a flash on this camera?
 
I've used a Marumi ring flash with mine. It's a fantastic flash and the 500D responds with it really well. (I'm selling mine soon actually, it'll be in the classified as soon as I can post it haha)

Other than that, the jessops generic one is the only other thing I've used with it, and thats a great flash!
 
I have one, tough camera mines taken quite a hammering over the last 1-2years.
 
I've taken mine to many a sweaty gig and concert and had no problem at all! It even performs well in the cold :D
