Canon 50d grips

i am hoping to get a grip for my 50d just after xmas and a remote shutter realease to stop them wobbling shotslol (before the 4th jan) but i need to make my mine up on what to get.

i like the idea of the Hahnel HC-50D PRO Grip with the infa red shutter remote control, but reviews say that it only works from the front of the camera.

are there any other grips out there, that has this same feature, but works better?

or anything else you would recomend?

It's a shame you didn't ask this a week ago. I have just traded mine in for a 7D and genuine grip.

The Hahnell was pretty well made and fitted nicely, but did come slightly loose once resulting in temporary failure of the camera. I thought it worked from the back, but could not say for sure.

Try these just bought one for my 550d from them, delivery was about 12 working days and the quality is very good for the price.

i recived this today, and it grip looks and feels good. the two battery that came with it are both canon ones and it all is in as new condition.

the only down side i have is the IR remote control has to be in front of the camera to use it, the sensor is on the front of the grip (where the "canon" would be on a standard grip)

is there anything i can do to make the IR work better, or are they all like this?

I'm not sure if there is anyway to make this work, using infrared from behind the camera.

I bought one of these from my 500D, and has quite a decent range - I tested it to around 50metres range behind the camera, obviously works off a radio signal

You will be able to use this with or without the grip, I found it to be good value for money.

thats a good idea, but i liked the way with the grip, that you did not need any other wires going into the camera body

I have found this on the interweb

looks like if i put some scotch tape over the IR reciver on the grip, it will help out with the angle the control works at.

I tried a small bit of the scotch tape cut to dize and stuck on the reciver on the grip, and i think it has helpted it out.

worth a go if anyone else is having problems with there IR
