hi all, i have all wayed used the same cf card with my 50d, and the shot counter was on around 718. a friend borrowed it last night to take some pics of some cars when i was there and they used there cf card, but now my pic shot number is around 3500. i know that they didnt take that many pics, even with my cf card in now it says over 3500 pics.

is there away to get it back to where it should be when i was using my card?

p.s i have started a new folder and it starts at number 1 again

thanks
ian

the only way around this from what i have found is to make a new folder on the camera from canon 100xxxx(the pic number)

to canon 101xxx

looks like my 50d had taken around 2500 more shots from the picture count in the standard folder than what it has done.

anyone else noticed this before?

not to sure if i have written this out very clear, so have had another go at explaning it

on my 50d i have keepted the picture files numbers from day one and on the same cf card. to date i had taken just under 720 pics, so the file number was IMG_718 and IMG_719 etc as more pics were taken.

at a car meet last night, i lent my 50d fto a friend for 30 mins and they put there own CF card in and took around 100 pics.

today when i was taking a pic the file number was on IMG_3400 (around that cant remember the exact number)

I know for a fact that they did not take 2500 pics, so what has gone on?

why has my file number shot up so much, i thought it would of been around 800 to 900

any way of changing it back to where it should be, i have been trying to find a way, formatting the card erc but it makes no difference, it just counts on from 3400+

any ideas welcome

if your friend had some pics on his card before he put it into your 50d, your camera may have recognised them and continued from there.

only way i know to change it is to manually reset the counter back too img_001. not so useful :(

You should rename them to something more like YYYY-MM-DD-imgXXX.cr2 (shoting JPEG is not advisable for obvious reasons). Lightroom has that option, and I am sure most other RAW converters do. Problem solved.

Canon cameras use the highest of the numbering from the card or the cameras internal memory.

In order to reset the count to continue from where you left off, you need to reset the internal counter to zero, then format the card in a PC to ensure it has no record of the last shot, format again in camera, the copy the last image you have back to the card in the correct folder, then take a shot and all will be restored:)
