I'm in the middle of a quandry! i had a play around with a work colleague's Nikon D300s, and found it nicer to use than my Canon 50D. Spec wise, what would be the difference between the two? anyone made this jump from a 50D to a D300? If i was to go through with this, i'd be selling up my canon, lenses, grip, and flash? Will it be worth it? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at the 7D as another option? It's on the same level as D300, either would be an upgrade from 50D.

heard a few bad things about the 7D though. thats what bothers me about it?

Try the 7D and see, maybe see if you can find another friend (as a photographer that might be hard!) who has one.

I'm a Nikon user but surely its not the camera spec, but which one you want more for whatever reason that drives your choice. That reason could be aesthetics, user interface image quality of just mindless lust.

Nick.

Can't see the point really, you've got some quite good Canon gear there, why not look to buy a second hand 1D MkIII - you'll love that.

the advantages the d300 has are mostly in AF and weathersealing, which is why people are recommending a mk3 to you.

if you price both up you might find sticking canon cheaper and a proper pro body will deliver superior IQ cos of its bigger sensor (but slightly cut down on reach)
