Ok i hope this is my last and final thread but it's all jessops fault by giving me an option to buy new due to the 0%.

I was going to maybe buy a 40d 2nd hand but now would prefer new so i'm thinking D90 vs 50D.

I know they not excalty on Par with the D90 slightly below and not having a magnesium body. But i read a review comparing the two and with the kit lens the D90 was basically on Par or slighlty better then the 50D.

And generally it's widley concieved that the 40d is maybe better at higher iso t0 the 50d, But i can't get a 40d new But i can get a Nikon D90 which is highly rated and will save me a few hundred on a kit,

Which is what i'd go for in 1st instance as it's my 1st and probaly last Dslr for a long time, so i'd learn more before maybe getting a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 which people like and maybe another zoom.

So Which side will win, will i end up on the dark side and the D90 is ahead in my mind for now.

You decide i don't want to know about entry level Dslr i've discounted them and would like to go in slighlty higher.

And in terms of photography, will be basically Family, Nephews and nieces and some Seminar type events.

I have tried both and being new to Dslr i'd say i don't mind the feel of either and seen a few D90 vidoes to do with menu seems simple enough to pickup.

Oh and more lens for the Canon

Opinions, opinions and more opinions. The more opinions you read (and this thread will provoke many, for and against both cameras, and none will be conclusive) the more confused you'll get. Have you picked either camera up? If you have, which felt better for you? If you haven't, I suggest you get down Jessops and do just that.

Seems to me that you're warming to the D90, largely based on the opinions you've read. If I were you I'd go and play with one, and if it feels right, buy it.

Oh, and this business about the 40D being better than the 50D at higher ISOs is nonsense.

When it's mentioned with a boost for Iso what does that mean ?

Nikfin your all your advice has been valuable so you'd go for a

Canon 50d with a Tamron AF 17-50mm F2.8 from start rather then the kit 17-85mm IS USM Lens. Even though the kit lens has a bit more range. I need to read some reviews on these kit lenses

Do other people feel same that kit lenses regard less of if it's the Nikon or Canon are better replaced with like a Tamron AF 17-50mm.

Also consider my original budget was £600 already pushing the boat out a lot. I have held a d90 and compared to a 500d to be honest i can't tell the difference. Even with menu's unles your an expert and know what your looking for to easliy access it's a bit of a shot in the dark

sounds like the same situation i was in, i was looking for my first dslr a few backs and was looking at an entry level dslr and kit lens and that was gonna be that, but i went for a d90 instead and already own a nifty fifty, tamorn 90, tamron 11-18 and a sigma 70-200 2.8,

you soon get sucked in quickly and the bank takes a dent quite often

and il be biased and say go for the d90 and tamron 17-50
