Canon 50mm f1.8 v f1.4

Apologies if there is a discussion thread about comparison of the two lenses. If there has been is there a link to it?


I am looking to get Liz a 50mm lens as she keeps borrowing mine. Question - is the f1.4 worth the extra over the f1.8? Saw a thread saying they had problems with the 1.4. Is this a common problem or just a one off?

Thanks for the link. For someone like me, I think that means don't spend all that money and go for the Nifty

The nifty is a very good start and a good lens, but once you use the 1.4 USM, poor old nifty sits on the shelf unused. The 1.4 is just so much quicker at autofocus and quieter, but optically there is not much if any in it.
