Canon 550D vs 600D - Which should I buy?

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on this forum.

I need some advice on which DSLR to buy out of the Canon 550D and 600D. I will mainly be using the camera for stills, I will hardly be using it for video.

I can't really justify spending the extra £100 on a tilting screen and feature guide. Are there any other reasons why I should buy a 600D over the 550D?

I'm looking to purchase VERY soon.

Any idea is welcome.

I was playing with both of them today actually, there really is very little to choose between! The primary difference is of course the screen's ability to flip around to any angle on the 600D. Useful if you're into landscapes, as you can stick the camera on a tripod and just angle the screen towards you, rather than have to bend down.

Also, just found out that the 600D shares the Integrated Speedlite Transmitter function from the 60D and 7D. In English - you can use the integrated flash to control an external flash such as the 430EXII or 580EXII without the need for cables or wireless transmitters/receivers. I've been playing with that feature on my 7D and 430EXII, it's great fun! If you're thinking of getting into portrait work, this could be a very handy feature for additional lighting - all you would need is an external flash, tripod and some sort of umbrella/softbox set up and you're away :thumbs:
 
Why not consider a used XXD? Better build, better AF, better handling & better value.

Thats down right lazy, for landscape shots :lol:

yeah OK for super low or low level macro, :thumbs:

Ive never looked at those cameras, but wireless flash is a big plus, I use it all the time with the 7D and a 430 :thumbs:

Why do you have to bend down to take landscape shots??
 
For 100, no, but these days you can get it down to less difference than that. If you can get it down to £50, go for the 600d, just for the wireless flash control and resale value (people like newer models).
