No not the usual which one should I buy etc, as there are lots of these threads !!!!!

I was wondering if anyone has had the oppertunity to compare the image obtained from both bodies at the same "size" - ie, the 5D cropped to the 1.6 factor of the 7D.

I realise this is probably a long shot, but thought it was worth a thread to see, esp on a cold white day like today.

Anyone had a go ?
Was there a lot of processing work done after to get the images to be similar ?

I'm sure I read somewhere that if you crop an original 5D image by 1.6x times, you get something like a 6MP image, whereas a 5D mkii image will be 8.5MP. I'm sure a mathematician will be here shortly to give you more accurate figures though! The bottom line is, if you want wildlife reach then the 7D can't be beaten at the mo!
 
Are you talking about 5D or 5Dii? I think for most non professionals, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two, so in order of importance (for me)
1) Depth of field advantage of 5dii
2) Cost difference advantage of 7d
3) AF advantage of 7d
4) Preference of focal lengths between the two (wider 5d or longer 7d)
5) Frames / sec advantage of 7d

For others, it will be different, see what it means for you
 
I used a 7d until i tried the 5d mk ii, despite the better autofocus and fps advantage of the 7d, the low noise factor on the 5d edged it in favour of 5d for me.

Couldnt use 7d once i used 5d

I think I'm right in saying that you can actually go wider with APS-C these days, only by 1mm though.

Actually its 0.8mm, the sigma 4.5mm works out at 7.2mm with the crop factor, the nearest FF is the canon 8-15mm

Yes was talking about the 5Dii

Was speaking to a friend yesterday and he reminded me about a review / est was done in a mag some months ago - going to see if I can find a copy - will post the results if I can.

I'm referring more to the effective focal length difference on the same lenses. i.e. everyone loves a good 24-105 or 24-70, but they are different lenses on a cropped body than full frame. Similarly, getting more from a 100-400mm on a cropped than full frame (even post cropping)
