Canon 5D (Mk.I) Err.99

Hi all, I'm getting err99 on my 5D.

I've cleaned the lens contacts, tried it with and without a lens, taken out batteries and left for 20 minutes, all without any impact. The camera will focus OK but the mirror doesn't go up when shutter button is fully depressed - actually it won't go up for sensor cleaning either.

The camera is nearly 3 years old and has probably 20k actuations on it, at a guess.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

The only time I've had Err 99 was dirty contacts on a lens, I'm afraid.

Hmm not good, thanks - will drop it back to the retailer I think.

Just had my 40d back from the repair shop.

If you check on the internet there are all sorts of suggestion to try before sending stuff off, but it seems the err99 is Canons 'bucket code' when the camera doesnt know what is wrong.

Mine turned out to be shutter mechanism and they changed the focus screen also, cost £189 all in.

Try with other lenses, memory cards and batteries if you can just in case!

James, are you using a grip on your 5D? I only ask as my grip/camera combination through up ERR99 once and it turned out to be a dirty contact inside the camera battery compartment.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have cleaned the lens contacts but not the battery - will give this a go. I don't have a grip.
