Canon 5D mk1 Mirror Re-call: Where to send it?

Afternoon all,

Been reading up on the 5Dmk1 mirror-recall free fix, and it seems that some places also often perform a complimentary sensor clean while its in.
Ive just phoned Colchester CPS and they want £45+vat to do the clean!

Just wondering if anyone can recommend another authorised Canon service agent who might do it FOC?

While they've got it ask them to give you a shutter count.

Mine had a scratched sensor from a clean that they thought the mirror had done (it might have helped that I put a note in saying I kept shooting and wasn't sure what damage it might have done)
Replaced for free

Just a quick update,

I have phoned Elstree and they quoted me £80 to have the mirror cleaned while the camera is in, and they dont provide pre-paid labels for posting the camera to them.

H.Lehmann ltd have said they'll send me free postage labels to send the camera to them FOC..

Just wondering if anyone else got Elstree to send them free postage labels, or if you paid postage yourself?

Has the mirror actually fallen off?

I imagine if it has they would give it a proper clean once they've been sticking things in. Would be rude not too.

I had to pay postage to get it to them.

No, its not fallen off, but as this is my backup camera I don't want to take any risks lol.

I read something, somewhere, about if you don't mention about having a sensor clean then they will do it FOC, whereas if you request a sensor clean then they charge you... sounds daft, but you never know?

Could be true but I guess it depends. If I had asked for a quote to change my scratched AA filter then they would know it was like that before I sent it in.

If I were you I would just send it in with no mention of a sensor clean, then if it comes back still dirty get it done somewhere else. How dirty is it?

Its not bad tbh, but its 6yrs old and never had a clean - so I reckon it cant hurt it to have one. I did a studio shoot last night and was generally at f9/f10 and there's a couple of spots, mainly at the edges. Its not as bad as my Mk2 ironically lol.

I think Wilkinson camera's do sensor cleans for £25, so worst case scenario is to take it there if Elstree don't do it.

Do they send it back to you FOC?

Yeah mine came back free, you can see from the invoice.

Ironically, the scratch that was on my was caused by a sensor "clean". Have you tried a rocket blower?
