Hi all,

I thought I'd give my lenses and body's a clean this week, while I was inspecting the mirror on my 5D, I noticed what I thought was a bit of dust on it. I gave it a couple of blows with my air blower, but it didn't move. When I looked closer I appears to be like a stone chip on a window screen. It is tiny and you can only notice it when the light is on it right. Will this cause me any problems in the future??? The camera is still under warrenty, should I take it back to the shop for further inspection????

Thanks

If its on the mirror I don't see it as detrimental to the picture as the mirror flips up when the picture is taken. But if its under warranty take it back to see, as it won't fix itself, it could possible get worse later and cost you, you know its there so it will always bug you and if you sell on you will feel obliged to tell the purchaser (as most people are honest) and it will cost you then if you knock a bit off for the chip.
They can't hang you for asking.

your right, it is playing on my mind, more worried that it might crack and damage the camera more than anything. I'll take it back tomorrow:(

thanks

Let us know how you get on.

So you can see it when looking directly at the mirror, but can you see it through the viewfinder? If not then it isn't a problem.

It is a tiny chip, cant feel it but when the light is right I can see it. Cant see it through the view finder at all. I am more worried about it getting bigger and the mirror smashing:( not worried so much about the cosmitics.

How did you get on?. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 5D and want to know if its a design feature.

Forgot all about updating the thread, so here goes.

When we had a good look with a magnifying glass you could see that it was just a tiny glue spot on imperfection on the back if the mirror showing through, so absolutely nothing to worry about.:(:D
