Canon 5d2 BG-E6 Owners - I need your help :) (Genuine grip question)

Some time ago - I bought a brand new genuine grip from a UK retailer - a couple of days ago I bought another one from a member here - and on arrival I spotted a few differences.

There are two possibilities - one is that Canon produced two slightly different versions - and the other is that one of the grips may not be genuine Canon although it is close.

So - I'd like to present you with two sets of images - and for those of you that own a GENUINE BG-E6 - purchased by yourselves from a UK retailer - can you tell me whether your grip is Version A - or Version B - based on the following.

If you bought your grip on Ebay, or second hand - as much as I'd value your views, I'd rather hear from anyone that bought new from the UK - so that I can be sure that you also didn't buy a copy (if that makes sense)...

So BG-E6 owners - have a look at these photos (please) and have a look at your grips - and tell me - which do you own - A or B. The seller is aware that we are going to make these comparisons.

The differences I can see are:

Texture on the plastic grip is different.

Top of the battery insert on one is gloss black, and on the other is continuous matt black.

The battery connector at the top of the insert (the little square silver bit) is matt silver on one, and gloss silver in the other. (This is harder to show in the photos but can just about be seen)

The base of one grip is raised slightly in the centre, the other is flat.

On one, where the battery part goes into the camera, there's a different machine mark, a different sized screw and where the little square metal connector to the body is, one goes over the top, and one doesn't.

So for BG-E6 owners - I'd really appreciate you having a quick look - and letting me know if your grip is grip A - or grip B.

Hi Chris, I have recently returned a fake BG-E6 and replaced with a genuine one - mine looks the same as Grip A. The fake was very good but it just didn't feel right. One other difference is the genuine one has one more screw at the non button end. If you look back several posts on this thread where I discuss the fake, there is a link to a comparison page which was very useful.
 
Genuine BG-E6 bought from Jessops in Dec 11 looks identical to grip A.

Would be good to get one more reply from another owner with a UK store sourced BG-E6..
 
Just one person on TP with a shop bought grip? :) One more check would be really useful just to confirm this :)
 
Thanks Bob - that link has also provided confirmation for me..

My original grip is original (UK sourced new from a retailer) and my recently purchased grip is not.. Now to re-enter negotiations with the seller...

6950rpm matched his grip with my grip - Grip A...

That link also showed me an additional screw I'd not spotted on my genuine grip that's not on the copy...

And if you're buying a BG-E6 - make sure it's genuine - get some close up photos first!!

There's one other quirk IIRC. The clone's battery tray is stamped "Made in Japan" but the Canon version doesn't have this (as it's not made in Japan)....a case of the clone trying to be too convincing I guess.

Thanks Bob - I now have enough clear differences to be happy to say the one purchased in the classifieds is not genuine (although I also believe the seller wasn't aware of this fact).... I expected there to be copied batteries, filters etc. but didn't think it went as far as original grips...
