Canon 5D2 Connection Problem

I seem to have a connectivity issue with my 5D2 that I cannot solve:bang:. When I plug the camera via a USB into my laptop (running vista) and into my Mac desktop, the camera isn’t recognized at all. Connect my 1D3 into the same machines, everything works OK.

The 5D2 has fully charged batteries, the latest Firmware and the computers have the latest Canon Utility installed. Every other function of the camera is fine and all works as it should. I download my images using a Card Reader so only need the connection for tethered shooting.

If anyone can throw some light onto this issue it would be very much appreciated.

Have you got the software that came with your 5d2 installed or the software from the 1d3 ?.

The 1d3 is an older design and the drivers will be different from your 5d2, it would be worth updating the software to the latest version.

I’m using the the software supplied with the 5D2 and its been updated from the Canon site. Still nothing.

1. There was a period when my 5D2 wouldn't start the EOS utility when I plugged it in and I had to start it myself. Tethering worked okay then. Cleared up after a few days and I never did track down what the problem had been.

2. Do you have Aperture on your Mac? I found tethering pretty good with it. If you can't connect to Aperture or EOS utility, you may have a camera problem.

3. Long shot but I remember reading that you should turn off auto-power off before tethering. Don't know if that was a necessity or a recommendation as I never turned it on anyway.
