Canon 5DII - Do they all do this?

Just noticed that my 5dii (which I've owned from new for about 6 weeks) is showing wear beneath the on/off switch. Is this normal?

I've got about 10K clicks on a year old 5D2 not showing any wear, as above have you knocked it ?.
 
Definately not been knocked. Looks like wear.

Surely camera bag shouldn't impact on it?

Not really, but I'm a little bit surprised. My 400d (which has had a hardish life) has no marks on it. I guess I'm concerned that other problems may start to occur.
 
I've owned many canon bodies and they all show some rubbing there, it just depends on how it is stored and transported.

Ok - that makes me feel a little better. Obviously if I am the only one that has experienced this, well - I'd be more worried!

Nerither has my 450, but maybe because that's black plastic, there's no paint to chip off :)

OK - I'm happy now (not that I was REALLY worried).

Also found that the 'green square' ontop of the dial has worn off!!!! ;)
 
i do wish that someone would make a leather case for SLR camera's, like the old school mobile phone cases. would stop the cameras black finish from rubbing off and provide extra grip.

AND save it from all the salty sweat from my hands (first wedding at end of month) :eek:
 
I wouldn't worry about it to be honest, you're camera is going to pick up some scuffs over the years. My 5D has a couple of grazes on it due to the climbing photos I take but the crucial areas (the lcds, viewfinder etc) are still in good condition. A knock or too might take a £100 or so off the resell value compared to a totally mint one but that's hardly a major concern in the long term.

Get a permanent marker and carefully fill in the scuffed area - you'll hardly tell it's there after that!

Camera armour?
 
can you use the camera with the armour on?
 
My 50D has a tiny wear 'dot' in exactly the same place; this is due to, when the camera sits on a flat(ish) surface with my 17-55 attached and hood extended, the hood effectively lifts and tilts the body so that it's resting on it's lower rear edge, not flat on its base. Therefore, the metal bulge beneath the on/off switch is the first bit that touches the surface it's sitting on, hence more prone to a bit of frottage than other protrubrances I can think of :thumbs:

When I used my d80 all the time I had camera armour on it to make it a little larger to help my grip of it. It is designed so that you can use it all the time and not imped the use of the controls
