Question re: the Canon 0-200 7f2.8 - am I right that this lens will fit both the canon rebel and a full frame camera? thinking about buying it, but with scope for a body upgrade in the future, wanted to check that it will fit both!

TIA :)

Any EF fit lens will fit any EF fit body so the answer is yes!

ef and efs lens will all fit eos canon cameras (1.6 crop)

however efs lens will not fit on a ef body due to the sensor location...

so really you'd need to determine what lens it is efs/ef and what bodies your trying to attach to....

some of the older canons have a FA mount which isnt compatible with efs/ef bodies/lens

Just to add,

Ef lenses (red dot) will fit EF-s bodies (white dot) but EF-s lenses will not fit on a EF only body.

So if the body has a red (EF) and a white dot (EF-s) on the lens mount it will take both types. If it only has a red dot it will only take EF lenses.

Just read all these answers and felt a newbie could still be confused.

My 2p:

EF (Red dot) lenses will fit ALL EOS bodies.

EF-S (White dot) lenses will only fit crop sensor EOS bodies.

This part is incorrect and misleading

out of interest... which ef and efs lens dont fit eos canon cameras??? to my knowledge the eos bodies were crop sensor.... unless theres some out there which are full frame??

DITTO;

How do you tell if it's a crop sensor EOS body?

OP seemed to know the difference.;)

I fail to see how that tells you the OP knows how to tell the difference. It does show the OP knows there is a difference between a rebel and a full frame.

EF-S (White dot) lenses will only fit crop sensor EOS bodies.

But not all of them

Although we are talking the older ones :)

I think the description including red dot and white dot on the body covers it best

Not just older ones, all 1D models (not 1Ds which are full frame) are 1.3 crop and will not take EF-S lenses

So it sould read
EF (Red dot) lenses will fit ALL EOS bodies.

EF-S (White dot) lenses will only fit 1.6x crop sensor EOS bodies.

IIRC the 10D doesn't take EF-S lenses although all the rest of the 1.6 crops do.

Or you can buy an extension tube from Ebay which will allow you to fit either lens to either body.

There's a lot of complex information in this thread, along with some serious misinformation too.

The simple answer to your question is Yes.

But you should be aware that when you move to a FF body, the lens will be effectively shorter on the FF body.

Fit.. yes.
However the EF-s lens will no longer focus to infinity on the full frame body, and it also may not project a full image circle.
