agreed, im always stunned by the amount of people who state "oh you dont want the 2.8, its proper heavy!"... my other half doesnt have any issue hand holding the sigma (about 30g heavier than the canon non-IS, and about the same lighter than the IS for joe.. off the top of my head) all day at dressage events.

well, i think its pretty simple. most people the first time they hold this lens it's likely the heaviest lens they have ever held, so compared to all other lenses they have it's much heavier, f you own it and are used to holding it then it wint feel as heavy.
it's like my daughter, when people pick her up they say she's heavy for a 15 month old and she is, but cos i pick her up all the time she feels light to me.

yup but if im not used to the weight of your daughter then im not "qualified" to pass judgement on if shes heavy or not

I use mine all day for sports, not a problem ! Cant stand monopods

I use a lot of the heavy primes and it makes me laugh about it 'weighing a ton'
shoot an airshow with a 1 series camera and a 500mm F4IS hand held all day and then tell me the 70-200 is weighs a ton
I can hand hold it easily all day long
and you made the right choice going for the F2.8 version
the F4 is a great Lens but after owning 2 of them and now having owned the F2.8 version for a couple of years I would not go back
enjoy the new lens
if the 70 -200 is heavy or not is very subjective and depends on the person.
If anyone finds it heavy or not it still weights 1.5 kg thus hand held all day that still makes it 1.5 kg of dead weight.
granted 1.5 kilos is nothing but for a lens it might seem alot.
P.S I wonder how much the giant sigma costs :nuts: ?

I've been suffering a severe case of buyer's remorse over the last day or two. Prompted by my wife (who will probably be reading this post) finding out I bought the f2.8 IS and not the f4 IS. However, it's started to wear off and now I'm getting rather excited about getting the lens. I know there's a shed load more to photography than the equipment, the photographer is the key, but I'm hoping this lens (together with my 7D) will open up a whole new world of photography for me and my wife.
I've been reading blog after blog on this lens and every time I see a picture I get butterflies in my stomach.
I emailed Jessops earlier this evening to ask if they had any idea on when they'll be getting stock. I also asked if it were possible to collect from the Trafford Centre, as they're listed as having stock. I have the next four days off, so the 60 mile round trip would be worth while to have this baby to play with.
