Canon 70 300 L Lens online

Hi everyone,

Just got back from safari, where I hired a 100 -400 lens. I hired it as I thought I would not normally use such a lens.

However when I tried for a weekend prior to the holiday and during the holiday, I was surprised at how having a longer lens made me look at photo subjects in a different way.

Even walking round my local town, just made me look at subjects differnetly, here is a few I took. http://amacimages.com/abstract-images/

So now of course I have started thinking about, if and what and where, I should by.

Other than animals, I don't think I would use the 400mm end of the lens so much, and the 70-300 seems to be a little smaller and therefore more of a carry round lens.

Then where to buy, there is a big price difference:
Wex £1199
Park Cameras £1169
Amazon £1104
Martins Camera shop £1030
Jessops £1159
Then perhaps too good to be true Simply Electronics £869

I want to support camera shops, and do not minding paying a little extra for face to face service, but do need to be sensible.

So after all that :) my 2 questions are:

Experiences with the 70-300 and use as general lens?
Has anyone used Simply Electronics?

Can't help you with Simply electronics, but I really like my 70-300l. It is relatively compact, mine is sharp wide open at 300mm and the IS is very very good :)
 
Give Kerso a shout on here or visit his website ... I got mine from him last year for under £1100 :)

With regard to its performance, I think it's brilliant. So much so that even though I could have done with keeping the reach, I got rid of my 100-400 just so that I could keep the 70-300.
 
I bought the 70-300L from Amazon and love it. I sold my 70-200L f4 IS to fund it and have no regrets whatsoever. It's not the lightest lens for walking around, but quality is first class.
I've had no personal experience of Simply Electronics. Have you checked out DigitalRev and Panamoz?
 
£838 from Panamoz, less another 5% if you pay by bank transfer. I make that £796.10 :)

I got mine from Kerso, but there was £90 Canon cashback at the time.

Yes, it's on my list of lenses to look at, but I'm staying well clear until the funds are there :lol:

There have been a few threads about the 70-300L and it seems to be getting rave reviews, certainly one I'm going to have a look at...

Still looking and thinking, has anyone used the 70-300 IS USM, I have read some comparisons between the L lens and this one. Everyone says the build quality is much better on the L lens, it is a bit more mixed with image quality. Some say big difference you will notice for sure others say subtle differences.

The 70-300L is a great lens. I got mine from HDEW for £899, and have just received the £90 cash back from Canon. After selling both my 70-200 F/4 IS and 100-400L, I made £640 profit (£730 after cash back) and have a much better range for my needs.

Another thumbs up for the 70-300mm L. :thumbs::thumbs:

Really good at 300mm for wildlife and landscapes - contrasty and sharp!
