Canon 7D Error 40 & Warrenty card.

Hi,
I hope someone can help me with a Canon 7D warrenty card problem.


My story in short, within the last year i purchased the 7D from a Hong Kong based internet company. The camera has developed an error 40 fault which will not clear. The company will accept my camera back for repair with my invoice and warrenty card.

Problem is i can not find this card anywhere and Canon UK will not touch a non european (EWS) camera for repair warrenty or paid.

If it not unethical to ask, does anyone have a warrenty card for an Asian marked 7D camera which is outside of the 12 month period they are willing to give to me?

Thanks in advance. Apologies if i offend or have broken any rules by asking, though i am in a position whereby an expensive camera bought in good faith is more or less redundant.

Surely Canon will repair it for a fee?
 
Sound like you need to send it back to where you bought it from for repair. Or pay to get it repaired. www.fixationuk.com

Have you tried new battery's. Theres a 2p size one next too the normal battery. error 40 is battery related. look here LINKY

Thanks for the advice and links posted.

I will try replacing the CR1616 cell to eliminate it (even though the voltage and condition of this seem good.) and post the outcome. I had experienced problems initially where the fault would come and go, clearing when the main battery was removed, but now the fault is present all of the time even when the camera is off.

I am to try Canon UK again to see if they will fix it even for a fee. I also need to rule out that the camera is not a counterfeit item (I doubt it is as it feels, looks and did perform very well as expected from the real thing.)

Camera warranty is country specific, lenses are worldwide.

As said, Fixation, Lehnmans or the like, Canon have a list of approved service centres on their site.

yeah i know that, but the OP said that Canon would not repair it under warranty or paid. Surely Canon Elstree will repair any Canon camera irrespective of where its bought but at cost?
 
Had a reply back from Canon UK. The service centre i sent it to only deals with UK/EU warrenty repairs. They have suggested 3 other places such as Lehnmans who should be able to fix it at a cost.
Felling a lot happier now. Camera will be going off first thing tomorrow.

thought id resurrect this thread again, my 7D which i dropped and smashed the top lcd has gone back to Canon Elstree and is being repaired at cost (£213 including have the modified mode dial fitted). My 7D is an import bought second hand from here and they had no problem repairing it. I understand they won't repair under warranty, Canon were also the cheapest by approx £60, although they tried to charge full labour on the mode dial mod until i pointed out they were replacing the top cover of the camera anyway so why the labour twice!!
