Good evening all.

Have just moved to Canon from Sony and have a query regarding TC's please...

I understand that the EF lens is Full frame and the EF-S is for APC-S bodies, but which type/sort/make of TC is compatible with the 7D please ??

Thanks in advance for any help/advice,

Paul

They should all be EF mount, I think the canon ones are meant to be the best for a canon body, but people frequently recommend sigma TC for sigma lenses. Some lenses such as the 70-300mm L wont take a canon TC and so a kenko might be your best bet. Which lens specifically did you want to use.

Am looking at the 200mm f2.8 ii USM, apparently a very good prime, with not much difference when used with a 1.4x TC. I am wondering if a generic, i.e. cheaper !! TC would work with this lens ??

Beware that cheapo doesn't lead to too much loss of quality, no point in having quality lenses and lose a lot of that quality with lousy TC.

The Canon extenders don't work with all lenses; they only work with L series teles and tele zooms. They will work with the 200mm f2.8 you mentioned. If you're going to spend a significant amount on this lens, I wouldn't skimp by buying an off brand extender, I'd go for the Canon extender

Many thanks for your help, I think the Canon TC will extend the range but keep the quality.

Paul

It'll certainly extend the range, you'll lose 1 stop and the AF will be a bit slower,I find the 1.4 works pretty well but the 2x loses quality, using it primarily with 300 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 mk 2, TC is a mk 3.
