Canon 7D?

Just spent the afternoon looking at 7D bought by a friend in the last couple of weeks.

He said the sales person in Calumnet seemed to think there is a Canon price hike coming after the New Year.

So do I stop this "green" feeling by buying one ASAP??

Buy it now you know you want to woth it and as said buy before the price goes up. there 2.5% vat to go on

I like mine, but not mega impressed.

Same here although I've only taken about 400 shots with the 7D so far...early days but I think I'd feel a little dispondant if I'd sacrificed two good bodies and a bit of cash to get it.

I jumped from the 450D to the 7D. Every single aspect is better on the 7D!!! However the jump from the 50D is not so big and the expectations might not live up to it.

I use my 7D for motorsports and wildlife (well it was designed for it!) and its impressed me no end!!

hmm this makes me unsure, the other thing i just thought of is being able to use ettl with a remote flash would be great as for all the biking stuff i do its in the woods so flash is necessary

yes the built in transmitter is a great addition!

The two things I like most about the 7D (after upgrading from a 40D) are Micro Focus Adjustment and remote flash triggering. There are dozens of other small improvements, but these are the two I would miss if I swapped back to a 40D. As the 50D already has MFA, I suggest the upgrade may not be worth it unless you have money to spare.

And just for a bit of fun, the on screen digitial spirit level is fun too!! :)

Are you finding you're failing to capture images with the current equipment due to limitations of them. The 40d/50d are pretty competant bodies with good iso ratings upto 1600 which are pretty usuable unless printing massively big pictures.

I found the 7D rather gimicky with lots of features that would maybe come in handy but at the price its going for not really worth the justification imo.

i dont have enough credit todo that unfortunatly, would need to sell other two first

Just to make your life more difficult - Jessops are offering 12 months interest free credit (over £800, 6 months under), so you could get it ordered, price matched to Jacobs (about £20 cheaper) and beat the VAT increase as well. You could then sell your other bodies without the rush / panic.

I popped into Jacobs the other day about a lens and came out thinking about the 7D - bloody good salesman

Seen this thread going so I thought I'd comment, I bought a 7d body from Jessops 3 weeks ago and sold my 50d a week later. Truth is I'm finding the 7d a bit more complicated than the 50d. I bought it for the wireless flash function for my 580ex and this works brilliantly. I also think my photos from my 70-200 F4 L Lens was of better quality on the 50d. I also used the 7d at a fairly dark concert just last week and found using iso 1600 and 3200 did not return acceptable results. Sometimes I can't believe the magazines comments on how perfect the noise in ISO settings are found. Maybe I just need to get used to it more. Thought I'd share that anyway. Frank

Think it boils down to two things

1) What you are currently using and are used to
2) What you expect from the upgrade

As I said in post #12, I upgraded from a 450D to the 7D. Every aspect of it is better, as I was getting very frustrated with the 450D at motorsport events. For me the upgrade proved to be not only in technology but also the capabilities. I can now rattle of 8 fps at motorsport if I wish, where as the 450D was only 3 fps (for example)

Think that made sense  lol
