Canon 800d or sony for video

I have both Canon 800d and a Sony her cx280. I have never used the Canon as a video recorder but I am thinking about it.
Do many people use dslr as a video camera? My main issue with it is that I would need to use a telephoto lens to zoom in but with the Sony I don't need another lens. On the other hand is it necessary to carry two things around?
And is one better quality video than the other?
 
I've used Canon for video and its been excellent. Canon do produce cameras that have long range zooms built in as opposed to their DSLRs
