Canon - a cheap 35mm lens?

Hi

After using Nikon, I bought a 35mm 1.8G which was just over £100 and really good value for money. The cheapest 35mm I can find at the moment is £230 and thats for a f2 35mm.

Any reason why canon's 35mm are so much more expensive than Nikons? I can get a 50mm canon 1.8 for under £100. :gag: But thats too tight to treat as a walk about lens on a crop body.

Is there a sigma/tamron version cheaper?
 
Ever use a 50mm on a crop? I love it on my crop. You just can't be lazy when shooting. Alot if moving around

I would just do the 50mm for the money. Worse thing tht will happen you could just resell it. It's a popular lens and will prolly sell for what you pay for it. Worth a try
 
The Nikon lens is designed for crop cameras and is a trick Canon haven't followed unfortunately.

However from my research there's not that much difference in price between the Nikon 35 1.8 and the Canon f2 about £50
 
The Canon 35mm f/2 does seem to hold its value. I got mine used for £160 which at the time was only 6 months old. It's a lovely lens and well worth it IMO.

Try LCE, they pop up there every now and then, it's where I sourced mine.
 
Not much choice for canon:
Samyang 35 f/1.4 fully manual
Canon 35mm f/1.4L - too expensive for me as well
f/2.0 - not that great. Nikon is probably much better, but only DX
or just get 5D and use 50mm

What's wrong with the Canon 35mm f/2?

I prefer using this on the 50d than the 50mm on 5d. I get much better results.

maybe not 'wrong' but not that 'exciting'. It only has 5 aperture blades, slow and not so accurate motor, it just doesn't quite compare against the modern nikon.
 
The Nikon is the better lens I agree with your points, and the AF isn't the fastest but it still delivers great results.

it's a great used buy if you can find one!
