Canon Battery/Charger Issues

Hi all,

Have tried searching the forums and can't find anything so thought I'd ask...

Splashed out on a 5D Mk iii yesterday and I seem to be having issues with either the new battery or the charger. My new battery won't take a charge left it on for ages, the charging light goes manically fast but the battery remains dead (no heat build up or anything like that is present). A different (canon branded) LPE6 and all charges OK.

Now the same has started happening with a different (virtually new) Hanhel battery.

So was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this? If it was just the one battery could accept the battery is a dud but given it's now at least too makes me wonder if it's the charger. Anyone know of any ideas for solutions? Happy to call canon but wondered if I was missing anything obvious?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

This is going to sound a little vague, but go to Canon's website and find the 5D3 support pages. I seem to remember references to batteries and charging issues on there from some time ago.

Ahhhh good call!

Just found something, will try what they suggest before calling them.

Cheers!

I rarely use any of the supplied chargers these days - I have a Hahnel UniPal + which charges any of my camera batteries or a pair of AA(A)s. Has a car lead too so is way more portable than the manufacturers' ones. It also has a charge state meter (not sure how accurate but at least it gives an idea!) and a USB port for devices that charge via that.

I had this issue on a 6D and LP-E6. Put battery in charger, switched on, manic flashing light and no charge.

Cure: took battery out and re-inserted making sure it was properly connected. Charged fine after that.

The light will flash quickly at the start (3 per second), and slo down as it charges.

If this doesn't resolve it, I'd be looking for an exchange on the battery / charger, depending on which is faulty...

Hope you do get it sorted

Thanks all!

It still seems erratic so will be giving canon a call tomorrow! Not impressed at all given the cash you spend on the gear!

Will be looking at OEM chargers at some point too, so welcome any suggestions!

Many thanks,

Matt
