Hi guys

I know there are a few versions of these available, but I am refering to the mkII "made in japan" version which is thought to be the best of the lot with the updated 7 blade design

Would a near mint condition one be a good buy for around £100?
 
IMHO at the £100 price level, that version lens was the best of the kit lenses available and still gives good results today. A good budget lens and one often overlooked................ I am sure you will be happy with the lens.
 
Seems to be very fair price going by the completed auctions on eBay
 
I bought one recently for my 5Dii on the basis that it it was good when I had one 10 years ago on my 350D :) and also it would fit my filters. (not buying filters again for occasional use on my 82mm threaded tamron!!!)
I have the non japanese version and paid about £88 on ebay, for the japanese version £100 is reasonable.
Some are asking £150 for this version.

might not be wide enough for your 500D but it's a decent lens at a good price
something wide might be better on a cropped camera for all round stuff, but depends upon budget and intent
 
Providing your happy with 28mm at the wide end then I'd go for it at that price if it's mint.(y)
