Looking for some opinions on a Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS

I'm considering swapping my current EF-S 17-85mm F4-5.6 IS USM for one of these to use with my 40D.

Is this sensible or would I not really notice the difference?

I also considered one of the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM for sale on here (£400 - £420ish), however I felt that this would not really be as suitable for general walk around work and I would then need an in-between lens to go with my EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM.
 
I think the 15-85 gives better quality images but not by much. The 17-85 is a pretty good lens. I'd go for a 24-105 f4L and a wide for landscape.

The 15-85 is significantly better than the 17-85....

TBH the standard 18-55 IS gives better IQ than the 17-85.

Sharpness and contrast and CA on the 15-85 are significantly better than the 17-85.

One of the guys at work borrowed mine to compare to his 17-85, he ordered one the next day.....
