Canon EOS 60D Owners Advice Needed

I currently have an EOS 40D that I love but it has its failings at high ISO which I use a lot photographing my local non league football team in the winter,anybody who has used there 60D in such circumstances at its top setting of 6400 can you tell me what the quality is like with regard to Noise.
Also if anybody moved up from a 30D or 40d does the non metal construction make any real difference in day to day use at an enthusiast not professional level
