Nice big sensor and 14 Mpx - really waiting for the reviews on this one.

Looks promising, just a shame there's no potential to put a fast little prime on it.

will flop
too expensive, lens too slow, sensor slighly smaller than 4/3

Canon has put up 2 sample images, this isn't bad..

but they're both ISO 100. I want to see ISO 6400 shots

Agree with Jukka. I think it's a great move from Canon, and a far more significant launch than the G-branding suggests - this could be Canon's answer to CSC, in a way that doesn't threaten their DSLR market. And whatever you think about it, it does have a unique features set.
If you want a fast prime and other lens options, then clearly it's a non-runner. But if it's aimed at folks like me - DSLR owners that want a second walkabout camera - it's got a big sensor, versatile zoom, optical viewfinder, articulating screen, pop-up flash, and better DoF control than anything comparable. It's also smaller than anything else with a lens like that.
Of all the numerous compromises that have to be weighed up, this one offers the best balance for me. And it's also a Canon, which means I'll be able to work it without thinking too hard![]()
Edit: and 4-stops IS, big hi-res LCD![]()
Just as i'd my mind made up on a fuji x10![]()
Looking at how far mirrorless lens sales flag behind mirrorless body sales on Amazon I'm guessing the majority of the market is either users who are happy to stick with the kit lens or in a similar situation to you.
Up until now anyone wanting a reasonabley compact large sensor camera with a zoom really had no option but to go for an interchangeble lens system. Now those people who buy one and stick with the kit have the option of a longer zoom with what looks like a superior appature.
Same here! Mind you the lens is slower, and it probably doesn't have an equivalent to all the exr witchcraft for use in low light. The sensor is bigger though, so that may negate it. Will be very interested to see some comparison tests!
I was just looking at this today, and am in the market for a decent compact for when I can't be bothered to carry the DSLR. And then I saw the price! I could get a nice Leica for that sort of money.
Oh great. Yet another camera I'll have to forbid myself from touching at focus / every time that I go to calumet, to avoid buying instantly because it's so pretty.
>_>
They don't look very sharp do they? Either it's just not a sharp lens or there's some heavy NR/processing going on.... but manufacturers sample images are sometimes pretty awful anyway so I suppose we'll have to wait to try one or read the reviews of those who have.
Deffo not impressed by those shots though.

Outdoor shots, looking a bit better in my opinion..

Noise reduction makes ISO 12800 look like watercolour paintings.. give us RAW already :bonk:
I'll try printing one of these at home to see how it turns out.
