Hi,

Quick question, but does anyone use their Canon IP4600/IP4700 to print out monochrome prints, and if so what are the prints like? I have read several reports mentioning that the printer cannot print true black and white prints without some form of colour cast appearing.

I'm tied between the ip4700 and the Epson P50 which seems to have good reviews lately.

I have the ip4500 which is basically the same and it does produce a very slight yellow cast to the B&Ws. It doesn't have dedicated B&W inks so it does struggle a little.

The colour prints are superb though.

iP4600 here - mono prints are certainly good enough for me - i've done a few for local camera club competitions and had good feedback on them. Using the mono printing option in the settings dialogue works well, removes any (extremely slight) colour casts by using only the 2 black cartridges.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. This now makes choosing between the P50 and the IP4700 even harder now!!! ;-)

I 'm considering using a CISS refillable cartridge kit with it(I already have one with a HP printer which works great) Has anyone tried using custom profiles on either the Canon or Epson before? Is there colour management options in the drivers for either printers?

Mike.
