Canon EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS lens EFS 18-13

Is this a good replacement for the 18-55 IS kit lens?

The reason i ask is that i am thinking of selling my kit lens and buying an 18-??? zoom as one i can keep on the camera and which gives me a longer zoom.

Be nice to have the extra reach and not worry about changing lenses all the time.

What's your budget? There may be other better lenses at a similar price.

Is this the focal length you want to go with? The Sigma 18-125 is supposed to be pretty good.

Well, thinking of going for the best 18-??? that i can afford. Say max of £200?

Ideally it would be nice to get a lens that could replace the kit one but still give me the qualities of the kit lens, i.e starting from 18-

Just curious if the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS lens EFS 18-13 would be a good substitute for the 18-55 kit lens?

I have the Canon 18-135 IS which I use as my general walkabout lens and I am very happy with it. Sharp with great colour reproduction and the best IS I think I have ever used. Leagues ahead of the kit lens

I found it preferable to the Sigma but it is more expensive, I doubt you'll find a new one for £200 (more in the region of £300) and they are hard to come by 2nd hand as they are so new... The sigma is cheaper but some find it soft, but I didnt find that when I played with one. The main reason I bought the Canon was the build quality and the fact its compatible with Canon's DPP for tweaking in PP.

BOth good walkabout / travel lenses IMO.

Ignore that, they are far too meticulous (this is the site that gave the Canon 10-22 3 stars for optical quality!!!!), and when you are shooting real subjects in colour, rather than lines and graphs on a tripod, its a different story! Real world shooting its a gem. A few taken from it (full size much sharper, Photobucket never does them justice);

This one was taken handheld on a foggy night at 1/13 of a sec!!

Its a very good all rounder! These lab tests are only of use if you are a pixel peeper who worries about blowing prints up to A0!

Looks ace! Thanks for posting those awesome shots.
