I have the above lens, which I love. I've been asked to be a backup togger at my nieces wedding in August. Mainly to capture candids and some behind the scenes.

I'll be using my 40D. Will this body/lens combination deal with most situations or do I really need a f/2.8? I have a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and a Nifty50 so close ups should be fine.

Any info would be great :)

Well in August it will be as light as it gets in this country :)

As long as you are not in the bowels of a castle by candlelight I'd say you are pretty well covered. You have f1.8 and f2.8 in your armoury too in case you need them (The 17mm inside the venue should be nice :))

If they are also hiring a pro, just try to stay out the shots but there is a lot you can add. If the pro is shooting the ceremony from the front, you go to the back and shoot some nice wide architectural shots on that f2.8. Candids always add extra and since you will know a lot of the guests you will be able to shoot with that knowledge.

It's always worth introducing yourself to the pro (if they have one) and just let them know that you understand that they have a job to do and that you won't interfere, in fact you will go out of your way to help in any way you can. Usually works wonders! ;)

The pro is a family friend. I've already talked to him so that's sorted. He's happy to give me direction throughout the day and to let me have a 'go' at some of the big shots.
