Canon lens for general use?

I am looking for a lens to take on holiday one for pictures of the kids in the pool ,around the pool veiw from hotel balcony showing the building work next door you get the idea. I have a 17-85 but thought it might be a bit short so was thinking about some thing a bit longer that wont break the bank any ideas please

I have a Sigma 18-200mm OS which i use for holidays. Apparently, this can be had for £200 instore from Jessops, as they are getting rid of Sigma as a supplier? This was posted on a big bargain site (not sure if I'm allowed to mention it?)
 
Take a look at the Tamron 18-270.
It's getting good reviews and I am seriously considering gettine one.
 
canon 28-135 IS is a good all rounder lens.

Jessops are indeed knocking the 18-200 out for £199.99, but its discounted everywhere for some reason, - argos have it at £265, normally £399
