Canon lens question

Hi all,

New to this forum, hello to all.

After a few years from the photographic wilderness I've decided that in the next few months I'm going to invest in a DSLR. I currently own an old film SLR, the Canon EOS 5000 and I was wondering whether the lens it has EF 38-76mm will work with the entry level Canon DSLRs, the EOS 1000D for example?

Thought it might be better to invest in a quality second lens if this was all possible.

Your advice is welcome!

Cheers,

Jonny

Welcome to TP, Jonny.

Any Canon EF lens should work fine on any Canon DSLR. Simple as that.

Your lens should work but please be aware that if you buy an entry-level Canon DSLR, your field of view with the lens will be different than on your film SLR.

This is because the sensor on entry-level DSLR's is smaller than a 35mm film frame.

For a more in-depth explanation, see here:

Therefore it makes sense to buy your first DSLR together with the kit lens (18 -55 or 18 - 55 IS).

Thanks all for your advice. I've a friend that has the camera I'm thinking about getting so I can sample it with it. Looking forward to further debates, once I'm set up!
