Im lost.. I fancy a speedlite soon, when my wallet recovers from its recent pounding, but there are a lot of options and Im not sure which is best for me.

I will be using it mainly for macro (when I buy a macro lens) with some sort of bodged diffuser and just all round general use. Off camera capabilty would be nice without wires. Im not sure which canon models support this if any.

I had a Nikon SB800 with my Nikon gear, and that did everything I needed and more, so something similar to that would be ideal, but maybe a bit less "pro".
Cheers

430ex II and ebay trigger?

Edit: off camera ettl cord would be useful for macro too!

Can't go wrong with a 430EXII, but if you want to go off-camera wirelessly, and retain E-TTL control, you'll need to add a master unit (expensive).

Or you can do it in manual-only with a radio trigger (cheaper).

For cheapness a cord, or if you have the dosh pocket wizards. Or learn, with perhaps trial and error, Manual flash and get those triggers from FITP.

So Canon dont support wireless flash using the built in flash as a commander like Nikons CLS system then??

Bummer. Will have to be a cord then.

Cheers, looks like a 430ex will do the job.

Only the Canon 7D has a built-in master flash. Cheapest E-TTL master looks like the new Yongnuo ST-E2 which has just become available for under £100.

A lot of people prefer manual for remote working, and if that suits then a Yongnuo RF-602 radio trigger set is only about £30.
