Canon Tripod Mount Ring "D"

Have recently acquired myself a 100mm 2.8 USM Macro lens. I notice a tripod mount ring is available for this lens, although the paperwork doesn't specifically state one must be used, I thought it might be a good idea.

So, went to Warehouse Express website and, Bloody hell! 120 quid!!

It's a chunky lens, but not huge, whats peoples thoughts? Should I use one? Would I be putting undue strain on the lens mount if I mounted it on the tripod in the conventional style?

Not needed - the lens (even the IS one) isn't heavy. Waste of money.

You have no worries about lens mount stress as many lenses are heavier without having the option of a tripod ring and rely on the body for support.
