Not found this after doing a search on here and hope it's in the correct place.

Canon USA have launched some instant rebates, some good deals to be had, my question is will we get these rebates here - really hope so

For those that haven't seen the rebates

Quick look on Canons Uk web and yes, although not as good. The only offers are if you buy a 7D or 5D.

Pity really as some good offers

I am really disappointed with the Canon UK cashback at the moment. It's been reasonable in the past: buy a product, get some cashback. But now you need to buy two products to qualify for one cashback.

Whenever I browse US websites, forums, etc, they're always talking about 'rebates' and they make what the UK gets look pathetic.

If I were in the US I would probably qualify for a $200 rebate right now. As it stands with the UK offer, I get nothing.

Random question, but arent the cameras and lenses produced over in the USA and in China/Hong Kong and we import them?

If so, that would explain why we dont get a better deal then those countries, that and the fact that the dollar's weakness against the pound or something. Haha

I think that has little to do with it. I think that most of the time it is the culture which makes the difference.
US has a lot about tax rebates coming back, for almost everyone.
UK you have to have seriously overpaid first before you can claim back (once saw a letter sent to my mother stating that she hadn't overpaid by enough, so she wouldn't be getting it)

Think about downloadable software.
To support the UK (as apposed to the US), there is very little extra requirement, I mean, most of us don't care too much if someone answers in American rather than English. But, we are still expected to pay almost 1 GBP £ to the $ US.
We just get scr****

I had a rebate of £75.00 of my my 7D with some student deal that canon was doing
but you had to make sure you brought it from certain dealers, Calumet being one
had to send off, a copy of my College I.D card and the camera receipt.

It is on offer here in the UK, but not on all of the lenses as on offer in the US.

In fact it's nowhere near as good as the US deal. From the leaflet I picked up yesterday.

■Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens £100
■Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens £25

My understanding is these are only available if you buy a 7D or 5D II and then you get this cashback on the lenses - what does it say on the leaflet ?

Think the biggest grip is there is a rebate in USA, which is then doubled if you buy the body.

Yes sorry, only 7D and 5D MKII.

When you purchase the body you get 3 months to purchase one of the lenses.
