No
I hate the damn things lol.
But our Sony just stopped working, any photo mode turns it straight off, so now it's just a small photo frame.

'She' wants to buy another compact, were going to Alton Towers on Saturday and don't really want to spend the day looking after my D80 and a bag of lenses.

Budget's going to have to be under £200, AA power preferred, Canon with IS would probably be nice. Anybody have any ideas, or anything to stay clear of?

TIA :)

That was quick, cheers.
Samsung got a big NO!
I like the look of the Lumix, but I need to pick the thing up tomorrow ready for Saturday (we leave at 7.30am) so web shops are out :(

are there really that many things to take photos of at alton towers that your mobile phone won't cover? :P

Did cross my mind, but she does P&S a lot, so it'll get used after the event too.
I'm wondering how much of a burden my D80 and 1 lens will be aswell, plenty of people have rucksacks and stuff there, I think.

We have a panasonic LZ8, bought it just before christmas for about £130, bought it primarily as it takes regular AA batteries and also as it has the Leica lens.

Picture quality is ok, it is probably good actually, but comparing it to a 40D it isn't great! I keep getting upset when I zoom to 100%! :bang:

Good features and build quality but poor image quality. If I were you I would definitely throw the extra few quid at the FZ6 - a much better long term investment than anything else you're likely to find for the same money :) (That was directed at the link to the FX37)

If you want a very compact, excellent IQ P&S then the now discontinued Canon Ixus 80IS is an excellent option, doesn't have full manual (aperture/SS) but has excellent IQ, plenty of programme modes & will fit very easily in the wifes handbag or a pocket !!

Personally I wouldn't bother taking the DSLR to Alton Towers

I'm all for the mobile phone option, but that's not going down well here...
Thanks for the help guys, plenty to consider.
Sample images for that TZ6 look very good.
Simon, the ixus 85 is less than 50p more than the 80 at Argos at the moment so that's a front runner too.

I bet there are loads of DSLR's there on Saturday, but no I don't want mine to be one of them...

The reason I didn't mention the 85 is because it has 10mp as opposed to the 80s 8mp, I've read reviews suggesting that the additional MP on the Ixus 85 are a backward step regarding image noise

It's sounding like the TZ6 fanclub in here, but i'd definitely recommend them. Bought one around a fortnight ago, as a replacement for my ageing Ixus V3, and i'm mighty impressed. Even took the photo's I submitted for the recent Photo-Challenge with it.

I actually used the click & collect feature when I bought my Sony 75-300mm lens the other day so I'm not really one to talk :P Depending on how high up you are within the Jessops chain of employment, please could you try and arrange some staff training for the Guildford branch though? Their knowledge is pretty dire! I'm a complete beginner and even I could tel :P Do the shops generally only have one or two 'experts', or is everyone expected to know their stuff?

Why not go for a micro handheld video camera with stills option. I bought one for a similar reason and the stills quality is brilliant and you get to film some of the rides.
