bit of an odd one..

new 8GB sandisk ultra from 7DayShop in an aging Canon 20D (the 20D supports up to 8GB cards).

used the card on Friday for a shoot, no problem.

used the card again for a competition and there have been a few odd images. first off while copying the files off of the card windows could not read one file, secondly im halfway through going through the comp photos and so far i have found two images with what appear to be corruption.. im leaning toward a card issue, but could it be a sign of an aging 20D?
 
Try the card in a different camera and see if it still does it. Also try reading the images straight off the camera rather than via a card reader and see if the corruption is still there. Also try some test shots with whatever card you were using before you got this new 8GB one.

If you haven't used an 8GB in the 20D before I'd be wondering whether there might be a compatibility issue between the ultra modern cards and the much slower and older card writing systems in older cameras.

I don't think you can be sure one way or another without trying another card and that card in another camera.
 
the other cards that are used in that particular camera are sandisk extreme 4gb which are rated to 30mb/s like the ultra.

just found another, pretty patterns lol (100% crop)..

one of the 4gb was used after the 8gb so if i dont see any there then i guess its definately the card.
 
Try doing a full format on the card. It might not be detecting some bad blocks...
