Changes to eBay - direct access to bank for payment to sellers?

I am an occasional seller on eBay and they want me to give them my bank details so that they can pay me directly into my bank, thus saving Paypal fees. Am I the only one who doesn't think that this is a great idea? There have been times that despite sending an item through eBay courier with an insured parcel, the buyer has not not arrived and the buyer has initiated a claim and Paypal has removed my money from my PayPal account making me claim against eBay and their courier - presumably this would happen directly from my bank account if so linked. That and I prefer not to give direct debit access to anyone I don't implicitly trust. All to save PayPal fees? What have I missed?

Direct debits can be reversed.

Ebay take their fees before they put the rest into your bank account, so far, I haven't had any problems.
