Cheap cameras on ebay...

Hi, interested in buying a 60d and came across this on ebay.

Any reason why this is so cheap? I'm pretty sure I've seen them being sold for this price used on the forum and amazon sell the camera for £768.

The seller has sold them before and customers who bought the same camera seem to be happy. Theres got to be a catch somewhere?
 
Its a grey import from Hong Kong. Likely a Japanese model.

Whether you consider this a catch or not depends on how you see it. There are two major drawbacks:

1. If it is stopped on entry to the UK you will have to pay any import fees due. This will be at least VAT - I don't THINK anything else would apply other than admin fees.
2. Won't have a UK warranty so you will have to send it back to HK if any problems occur.

Some importers do try and negate there worries. For example onestop digital offer a VAT promise where they'll refund the VAT if the package is opened.

Just depends how you weigh up the risk really.

It's a grey import. You pay a lower price as a trade off for it having no warranty, and the gamble of being hit with customs charges.
 
I've just got a 60D from www.panamoz.com, here's the link http://panamoz.com/index.php/digita...l-promotional-price-free-1-year-warranty.html and that includes all VAT and duty paid. The price + £10 p&p is it. I received it 4 days after ordering and if the worst happens then I'll just send it back to panamoz and they sort the warranty claim. The same thing ranges from £750 - £830 for a UK model depending where you buy. You have to decide whether you want to save around £200 for a few extra days lost in a possible warranty claim.
 
Plus, their shipping does not include any form of insurance and UPS will also charge you a handling fee to get it through customs.
