I would like a cheap/good prime for my canon 550d with a focal length around 30mm. I have seen 28 2.8FD lenses for £35 and am aware of the 35f/2 for approx £200.

I'll be using this for video mainly so manual aperture and focus is not an issue.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

CZ lenses around the 30-35mm though I'm not completely sure if they are worth it. I've tried a Pentacon and it was quite sharp compared to the Canon 50mm 1.8 FD I've had before though I've used these on different cameras :) And personally I did not really like the 28 2.8FD

I wouldn't bother using FD lenses on an EOS as you need an optical adapter to reach infinity focusing, meaning quality is degraded. Choose from M42, PK, Olympus OM, Nikon or Contax/Yashica lenses instead.

If you are looking at lenses around the 30mm range, I could suggest the Yashica ML 28/2.8, the Olympus OM 28/3.5, Nikkor 28/2.8 (although that has gotten pricey recently!), Pentacon 30/3.5 and Super Takumar 28/3.5.
